November 29 1847: A group of Cayuse Indians attacks the Whitman Mission near what is now Walla Walla, WA killing missionaries Marcus and Narcissa Whitman and seven male emigrants. Four other white men will be killed over the next few days, for a total of thirteen dead, in what becomes known as the “Whitman Massacre.”
