The beaded necklace is a unique item to our Museum Store; each piece is designed into array of colors with charlotte glass cut beads, size 13/0. Dimensions: 4 3/4" in length; 2 3/4" width; 1/16" depth sewn onto a moose hide and the 26" necklace is strung with size 4MM glass beads and tubal bone to complete the piece. COYOTE EARRINGS
COYOTE is a legendary trickster. Often he is the victim of his own buffonery and plots. Many Columbia River tribes have him responsible for creation, death and rules of conduct. He set an example of what-not-to-be. Coyote, the animal, is wiley and uninventive as his personna.

Beadwork made by Carroll N. Dick from Warm Springs, Oregon. Gorgeous ladies' hat with a classic floral beadwork found in Plateau exemplar designs. Hand crafted by Candi Heay, a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. Reminiscent of vintage corn husk bags and purses, this adorable hat employs the artful use of natural fibers in the hat column where delicate flowers draw visual interest in a Plateau-style floral design. In Native women's regalia, this cornhusk hat represents a superlative example of femininity, style, balance and beauty. This item is a must-have for collectors, or that special woman whose regalia is missing a signature piece like this. Corn husk and hemp weft, the roses are made of satin ribbon variegated yarn on top.

A wonderfully complex piece, this artful representation by Crystal Pond utilizes a bright color palette, and a series of patterns in opposition to each other. At the center is the blue flower, with yellow tulips on either side; between these are two butterflies, and at the very bottom are two green birds. Imaginative, singular in beauty and very much a feminine accessory, this purse is destined to make some fortunate woman the envy of all her girlfriends.

SHE WHO WATCHES EARRINGS
She Who Watches is a pictograph overlooking the Columbia River where my great-grandparents lived. She is an important figure of the Columbia River legends. Originally a woman chief, she taught her people how to live well. She wanted to watch over her people forever, so Coyote changed her into rock. Under her watchful gaze, we remember her as the last woman chief of the Columbia River people.
